As the title says, I’m confused. I was recently listening to talk radio, and they love throwing around terms like “liberal” and “conservative” and when I took a minute to think about what those terms mean, I got confused quickly. Liberty is freedom, right? So a liberal likes freedom, right? Don’t republicans like freedom? Conservation is the caring and preservation of limited resources. So a conservative likes saving, right? Don’t democrats like to save energy, the environment, and stuff like that?

Why are liberals and conservatives at such odds? I don’t get it. Seems like very compatible concepts to me.
