I was relieved to hear McCain was going to be debating tonight. I have been looking forward to these debates since the candidates accepted the nominations, and selected their running mates. For me this will be an important step in helping to determine where my vote will go. I’ve learned through my adolescence that what is said in the debates is not about the empty promises each man makes on stage. It’s about judging their character, feeling out who will better represent the United States of America, to the world and for Americans.
Most of their ideas and plans are empty rhetoric until they get into office, and then all bets are off. I freely admit that what I want to see is a statesman who can maintain poise under pressure, and who will help heal international relations. This is about making friends. Will the next president bring strife or salvation.In my experience it’s not what you say, but how you say it, and a televised debate is a great way to see how they respond when confronted with adversity live in your home.I have my favorites, but I haven’t made up my mind yet. What do others look for when they watch these debates?

If it’s true that Obama can’t produce a birth certificate for natural birth in this country how is it even remotely possible that he can run in this election? This is an issue that needs to be brought up now before it goes any farther. If he wins that would make Biden President…Scandal…McCain should bring that up in his campaign,,This would be a huge changing blow and that would stick to the wall.! I also hear that gov.Palin is commander and chief over our countries defence in Alaska? Are there any truth to any of this mess? If Palin is trusted with something like this I would trust her to be commander and chief of this country and a lot of other people would too. Fact is Obama was ask by another democratic senator of any accomplishment that obama had done..he couldn’t answer..he had nothing. Seems that all the press is praising Obama giving excess air time promotion but giving McCain very little coverage.What I hear the press giving is 75 to 25% ratio to obama. I think McCain should get the same ammount of press time. Press seems to be biased when in fact should be neutral in the professon, no matter of personal feelings.from Steve Ertzberger
Why is it ok for Palin to not have knowledge about critical information and be able to talk about being a hockey mom when our country is facing an endless war, terrorism, economic decline, etc. How can pundits say she did well? Can she deal with Russia, Iran, Syria, Pakistan? She looked like she was shaking in front of Biden. This country is in a crisis. We don’t need another false bill of goods. This might be the first election where the vice presidential choice makes or breaks the campaigns. I like both McCain and Obama, but I don’t think Sarah Palin was the right choice as VP. I like Dodd, but I think Hillary as the VP nominee might have made for more party unity within the Dems. The debate? Yawn.from Albert
