Rumors are stirring about Bloomberg joining the presidential race… that would be interesting. And I thought Fred Thompson joined the race late!

I guess those Ron Paul banners are working! Ron Paul raised $4 million in one day, breaking records and surprising everyone. Way to go Ron! Impressive to say the least.
Does this change the Republican outlook? Does Ron Paul take McCains spot in the chain of command, or does he go higher up the ladder to contend with Rudy, Thompson and Mitt?
Just in case you weren’t scanning the news, the major circuits are reporting that Thompson had a campaign worker who was a convicted criminal, but who has since stepped down. Also, that Romney has received an important endorsement from the Moral Majority founder. I’d like to know if there was a donation involved.
Yesterday I drove from Boston Massachusetts to New York, and on my way, when approaching Providence, Rhode Island, I spotted another Ron Paul banner. I really got a kick out of the one on the southbound side because it said to Google Ron Paul banners!
There was another one on the same bridge on the northbound side.
I was able to take a picture of one further up on 93 awhile back:

I was reminded again this morning that Senator Dodd is running for president in 2008. I actually don’t know too much about him personally or his platform, but I have been impressed with a few of his actions while in the senate.
For one, Senator Dodd led an inquiry into credit card company marketing and billing practices back in January of this year (2007). While I am a fan of credit cards, I fully acknowledge that they are proving to be a bad thing for many Americans, and something must be done to fix this growing problem.
This morning I learned that Senator Dodd is blocking a bill which would give telecom companies a “get out of jail free card” for allowing illegal wiretaps on American citizens. While this blog attempts to provide information and not opinions, I have to admit, in my humble opinion, that I think this is a great thing that Senator Dodd is doing.
I also think that the phone and communications in general are great things, but the telecom companies have abused their role as the carriers too many times for my sympathy. If you too think that Senator Dodd is doing the right thing, you can visit this website to show your support:
Today marks my first personal contribution to any candidate. I just donated $2 using a personal credit card (not a business!) to Senator Dodd. As I explained, my wife and I are expecting our first child and have to start saving for college now! ![]()
I almost forgot - Colbert from the Colbert Report on Comedy Central is running for President too, and he’s encouraging others to do the same.
UPDATE: Some media outlets are reporting Colbert might get into trouble for his spoof-campaign! So much for humor in elections…
UPDATE 2: Colbert was denied his presidential bid in South Carolina.
The news drama regarding the 2008 Presidential Elections have settled down a little, and now its all about money.
Here are a few of the rumors I’ve heard about:
Democrats
O’Bama is getting more smaller donations than Clinton, and Edwards is applying for public funds.
Republicans
Romney holding back pouring more of his own money into his campaign, fearing the perception he’s trying to buy the presidency, Giuliani is sending back $9.11 checks, and Paul is surprising everyone with his online supporters.
This had to hurt. The Clinton campaign has given up a large chunk of money back to donators linked to a convicted fraudster. 30 years ago, this probably would have been brushed under the rug, but thanks to such a reactive and pervasive media system, everyone knew about the issue overnight.
In doing a little research on this, it is interesting to learn that Mitt Romney also has connections to campaign fundraisers who have been charged with fraud, but its thanks to that same “balanced” media engine that the word didn’t get spread. Here is my source for this information:

Personally, I believe that Mitt Romney is an upstanding guy, but I’m not so sure about Hilary. I’m impressed with them both for their amazing accomplishments, but in many ways both of the Clintons seem to too calm, cool, and collected for me to believe its not contrived. Mitt on the other hand, while he does a good job in presenting himself as a clean, cut, responsible individual, occasionally puts his foot in his mouth when trying to say the right thing. (See Romney’s speech in NH about health care.)
I do have my complaints about Romney. Here in Massachusetts, our state transit system is a serious mess, and the big dig project which occurred under his watch is still chock full of problems. Granted, he fought tooth and nail with the Mass Turnpike Authority who in my admittedly uninformed opinion is more responsible for the big dig problems. To be more specific, my complain about Romney is that he left his post during his second term to prepare for his current run for office.
Last night on the late show with Jay Leno, Fred Thompson announced that he’s running for the President of the United States in the 2008 election, though we’ve been suspecting that he’d join in for months. Even though he only announced that he’s running for the President of the United States in the 2008 election last night, he’s already among the leaders in the polls.
Thompson has his acting career to thank for being so well known. His most prominent role as part of the cast for Law & Order introduced him to television watchers the world over. He is also a former senator, so in many ways he’s in a great position to become president.
His campaign is based on security, unity, and prosperity. Those are some good values - clear and concise. I for one would love to see a more unified America - it seems we’re become so fractured and disagreeable lately. Maybe its always been that way, but I’m only noticing now! ![]()
